Hello, my name is Julia-Anne and this is my work.
I grew up in a rust belt town that ran on Jeep fumes and Tony Packos hot dogs. My family and I spent our summers rambling around Michigan backcountry or winding through Appalachia in a gigantic green 1979 Ford Econoline van listening to Dolly Parton and NPR. When I was 17 I took a scholarship to The Evergreen State College in Olympia and haven’t looked back.
The majority of the last ten years I’ve dedicated my time to learning completely obsolete printing technologies like stabbing wood with sharp knives and scratching tiny lines into copper plates. I managed to live from 1997-2006 without a computer or a television and I don’t regret a single moment.
I discovered that I could turn my obsession with old junk and hand painted signs into a graphic design career in 2006. I left a life of teaching drawing to youngsters in Olympia to attend the Design Program at Seattle Central Community College and I’ve been mainlining graphics ever since. You’ll probably find my desk littered with scraps of paper covered in drawings of foxes and Vikings drinking beer together. Having a job that requires doing creative gymnastics to solve problems, make things and tell stories feels just like walking on sunshine. Some days I feel like the luckiest person in the world.
Right now I'm looking for a job that I love.
So if you happen to have one of those, please don't hesitate to call me.
